Abstract

In this study, stations were selected along the Karun River and samples of water, sediments and
biota were collected.
Mean concentration of Ca, Co, Pb, Cu, Zn, and Ni in samples were determined; Mean annual concentration of Cd in water was 0.028 and in sediments about 1.69 ppm. The values for other heavy
metals were; Co=0.052 and 2.19 ; Pb=0.605 and 14.8; Cu=0.035 and 8.5; Zn=0.085 and 17.13 and Ni=0.129 and 7.93. Concentration of all metals in the muscles of all fish ( mg g-l drywt) were greater
than those of Brayan (1976) base-line. These values are much more than those of reported standards, and have caused pollution of underground waters, agricultural products and the wild environment, which would ultimately endanger human health. It is hoped that the discharge of water and agricultural runoffs and industrial polluted waters be managed according to the procedures of the
environmental protection agency.
